Dear Friend,
Let me start off by telling you that I love my wife and I
understand why she wants me to keep my big mouth shut. She just wants to protect our
daughter until she graduates from college.
But I can't keep quiet any longer!
I'm mad as hell about the high cost of college and how poorly
the college financial aid system in this country works!
I'm also mad because you're probably getting screwed or about to
be screwed by the financial aid system and by the college financial aid officers. We
almost did!
Seven years ago we considered not sending our
son to a good four year school because we didn't have the money. Jason, my son, was a B-
student in high school. The guidance counselor at his high school told us to just send
Jason to a 2 year junior college since we didn't have any money. He said there was no
way Jason would get any free financial help because of his grade point average.
We almost listened to that guidance counselor. (Please note, after years of dealing with guidance counselors and talking
with thousands of parents, if there is one piece of advice that I can give you it is: don't
ever listen to or rely on a guidance counselor. Once you have found out that they have
let you down, It's To Late!) However, I went to a junior
college and since I haven't made a lot of money, I thought that maybe it would be better
for Jason if he went to a good college and got a better start on his career than I did.
I also didn't listen to the guidance counselor because
some of the things he told me just didn't ring true. I have known families, whose children
had worse grades than Jason, who got great financial aid packages. Some of these families
made more money than us, some didn't. Some of these families paid nothing or close to
nothing for their child's college education! Remember, the kids I'm talking about were
not tops in their class. They are average students.
My goal was to find out how they did it!
Out of necessity, I always been the type to find the cheapest
way to do anything. Whether it's buying a new car or re-roofing the house. So if there
was a way to get Jason a good education at a fair price, I was determined to find it.
So I did some research.
I started by figuring out how the financial aid system works. It
took hours and hours of research. My conclusions were that the government and the college
financial aid officers don't want you to understand how the system works because you might
just get your fair share! The system is confusing and ambiguous, intentionally.
In fact the recent changes in the 1997 tax law, that everyone is touting as great for the
educational system, will only make you eligible for LESS college financial aid.
Even so, I learned their system inside out!
Once I understood how the college financial aid system worked,
then I knew how to play the game by their rules. Now I had the rule book. Guess what?
I Won!
That's right, I learned how to play their game
and I won! I learned how to make my kids eligible for the most financial aid
possible. I beat the system and so can YOU! I beat the system by learning
how to work with in it, and I certainly did get my FAIR SHARE of the financial aid pie and then some. That is a
victory in a system that is unfair and discriminatory. Most families don't
get their fair share, and most don't even know that they didn't!
My son, Jason, went to a great four year private school. Total
cost, over $110,000. Outrageous! However, this B- high school student now has a great
job on Wall Street. And a better future that his old man does! The real question
however is, how much money do you think I had to take out of my pocket for this $110,000
education. It cost me just $4,244 per year. That's it! Less than the cost of a state
college.
Do you know that if Jason had gone to that two year school (like that misguided guidance counselor wanted him to) and then transferred to a four year school, those last two years at a
cheap 4 year school could have cost me $20,000. My kid got almost $94,000 in financial
aid, a great education, and now a great job!
So can yours... if you know what to do!
My daughter Tori, the apple of my eye, is a sophomore at a
$31,000 a year school. My cost for the first two years has just been $3150 per year. You
see, I have refined my process and now I am doing even better with Tori. It's no
wonder that my wife wants me to keep my big mouth shut. Not only did the kids get
great educations, we still have hope for an early retirement!
So why am I tell you all this?
Because I think the cost of college is outrageous and just
getting worse. If your kids are like my kids, then they are good kids who need a break. I
want my kids to do better than me and I am sure you do too. But I didn't want to
break my piggy bank open and ruin my retirement at the same time. I had to figure
something out. If you can't come up with the money for college, then your child is
doomed. A college education can leave you in debt for life!
I'm also telling you all this because you deserve a level
playing field in this game. For years the upper hand has been held by those who make
the rules. Now you too can have a copy of the rule book!
Here's how I can help YOU!

So, I have decided that a fair price for this booklet is $12.97.
